Funding public education
Texas currently ranks at or near the bottom among states in funding for public education - we can and must do better. Our state constitution guarantees every Texas child the right to a public education, and we must commit the resources necessary to meet that obligation. Far too many of our teachers are leaving the profession and far too many of our students are dropping out and not graduating. We must give our schools the resources they need, and ensure they are wisely used.
Empowering our teachers to improve school performance

Teachers are the backbone of our public education system, but too many are leaving the classroom after years of frustration, while it is becoming increasingly difficult to attract high quality people to this vitally important profession. We must empower our teachers by paying them respectably and giving them back control of the classroom. Therefore, I support initiatives that de-emphazies the significance of the TAKS test so that teachers can teach more than just how to pass the test they can dedicate more time to helping all students master a college prepatory curriclaum. Investing in our educators is key to LEAVING NO CHILD BEHIND.

Expanding access to high quality affordable health care
Texas has the unfortunate distinction of leading the nation in the number of uninsured residents, many of whom are our children and seniors. Health care is ultimately a national problem that requires a national solution, but we must do our part at the state level to expand access to affordable health care. That means restoring the hundreds of thousands of kids cut off from the state's Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

There are thousands of families that don’t have health insurance because they cannot afford it. There is no excuse for not providing that at a minimum ALL children have access to high quality health insurance. I believe that all Texans have a right to take their children to a doctor when they get sick and not go bankrupt in the process. As State Representative I will support legislation that will restore the funding necessary to sustain CHIP.

I will also support the much needed stem cell research in order to proactively fight the diseases that plague our community.
Accelerating economic growth and quality of life by strengthening the viability of Fort Bend County
As an African American entrepreneur, I understand the needs of minority, woman and small business owners. Small business owners are the backbone of our county and they enhance the quality of life within our community. Small businesses are the cornerstone of economic growth and job creation, representing 99 percent of all employers, creating nearly three-quarters of all net new jobs, and employing over 50 percent of the private-sector workforce.

As State Representative I would fight to ensure funding for entrepreneurs and small business owners within Fort Bend County by improving access to low-interest loans and start-up grants. Moreover, I will advocate for minority, women and small business owners to compete on a level playing field for contracts with state governmental entities.
